Narrative strategy for mission-driven organizations
at the intersection of advocacy, arts, and civic life
I help mission-driven organizations get clear on their story and build the infrastructure to tell it well.
Many organizations with sharp in-house communications shops struggle to close the gap between knowing the impact of their work and telling that story effectively. They’re producing material before they've answered the harder questions:
Questions about who they're truly speaking to and why that person should listen.
Questions about what the organization stands for when the pressure is on, when the funding shifts, when the headlines change.
Questions about how to build a culture where the story isn't just something the ED tells well in a room, but something every staff member, board member, and partner can carry into the world.
That's the work I do: Not the content- you’ve got that covered. I partner with you to unearth the clarity that makes the content matter.
Bigger than numbers.
It’s not just you. The landscape of funding for nonprofits is fundamentally, seismically shifting as we look into 2026 and beyond. According to Funding For Good, 87% of foundation leaders report increased demand for grant funding, while 34% of nonprofits report declines in federal funding and 29% report reductions in state and local government funding.
Funders right now are making decisions based on organizational clarity: Can this organization articulate what it does, why it matters, and where it's going? Donors expect transparency. Partners want alignment. Funders are looking for organizations that show both impact and intentionality.
The organizations securing funding in 2026 are the ones who have done the internal work first. That's what I help you do.
Securing funding to continue your organization’s work isn’t just a matter of putting strong numbers in a proposal. We get clear on your story from the inside out so that every grant proposal, every donor conversation, every public communication reflects an organization that knows exactly who it is and what it stands for.
How The Work Unfolds
I work at the strategy level as a thought partner to leadership. I listen for what's true about an organization, find the story that's already there but not yet fully told, and build the language and frameworks so your team can bring it to life.
01
Deep Listening
Before any strategy, I listen. Conversations with leadership, staff, and board, and a close read of everything the organization already produces. I'm looking for the gap between the quality of the work and the clarity of how it's communicated.
I'm listening for the recurring words, the animating beliefs, the things people struggle to explain. Those gaps and tensions are where the real work begins.
02
Synthesis and Naming
I take everything I've heard and find the through-line. What is the one true thing about the organization that makes everything else make sense?
This becomes a strategic narrative document: the core story, how it translates across funding, partnership, and public contexts, and the specific language that should travel consistently across everything the organization produces.
03
Embedding and Equipping
Strategy only works if the people who carry it every day can use it. I work with communications staff, executive leadership, and boards to translate the narrative into practice through coaching, working sessions, and feedback on key documents.
The goal is that the story no longer depends on any one person to tell it well. It lives in the institution.

Who I Work With
I work with mission-driven organizations whose leaders sense the gap between the quality of their work and how clearly it's being communicated, and are ready to close it.
Often these orgs have budgets between $1M and $10M, some execution capacity on staff, and a story worth telling better.
A note on how I don't work: I'm a strategist, not a production shop. I won't be writing your weekly social posts or building your website. What I will do is help you think so clearly about what you're trying to say that whoever does create those assets can do it with real direction and purpose.
